Interactions between precipitation and slope and tree cover density for summer were not included in the final model according to AIC. Precipitation values were skewed towards 0; for the plot, intermediate and high precipitation were therefore set to 1.1 mm and 5 mm in summer (maximum = 23.1 mm in the data), and 0.5 mm and 3.8 mm in winter (maximum = 16.5 mm in the data), respectively, determined visually from the density distribution of precipitation values. f[u]/f[a] represents the frequency ratio between used and available positions, with values > 1 indicating preference and values < 1 avoidance. Note the different scales of the y-axis between graphs
